One killed and at least six injured in mass stabbing in Manitoba First Nation
Suspect also died; RCMP say eight people were taken to hospital after attack in Hollow Water First Nation, about 200km northeast of Winnipeg
One person was killed and at least six others were injured in a mass stabbing on Thursday morning in a First Nations community in the Canadian province of Manitoba, police said. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the suspect also died.
The incident took place in Hollow Water First Nation, about 200km (124 miles) north‑east of Winnipeg, and was described by the RCMP as a "mass casualty" event. Eight people were transported by either air or ambulance to local hospitals, Shared Health, the province's health authority, told the BBC, arriving with a range of injuries.

Stars air ambulance confirmed it responded to an emergency in the community on Thursday morning and flew two patients to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Local health services and RCMP personnel were on scene, and Manitoba RCMP warned residents they should expect a heavy police presence throughout the day while investigators worked.
The RCMP said there was no ongoing risk to public safety. The force planned to hold a news conference at 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT) to provide more details, and investigators were continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
Shared Health gave no further breakdown of the injuries, saying only that those taken to hospital arrived with varying injuries. Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased or the injured pending family notifications and further investigation.
Hollow Water First Nation is a small community northeast of Winnipeg. Manitoba provincial and federal supports are often mobilised after serious incidents in remote communities, but officials have so far limited public comment while law enforcement completes initial on‑scene work.
The RCMP investigation is ongoing. Officials asked anyone with information or relevant footage to contact investigators and said they would provide further updates after the scheduled briefing.
