Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man in his 40s was found dead at a property in Mountnorris, County Armagh.

Emergency services attended a house in the Cusher Green area shortly after 11:30 BST on Thursday and discovered the man deceased at the scene with serious head and facial injuries, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said. A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Robinson, speaking on behalf of the PSNI, said residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while officers conduct further enquiries. Cordons were in place around the scene on Thursday evening as specialist teams carried out investigations.

A BBC News Northern Ireland reporter at the scene said the incident occurred in a housing development where many pensioners and families live, and that forensics personnel in white suits and blue face masks were working at a bungalow. Neighbourhood activity that typically includes children playing outdoors was replaced by police vehicles and tape as the Major Investigation Team examined the property.

The PSNI confirmed the investigation is ongoing. Officers have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the man's injuries or the nature of the relationship between the arrested suspect and the deceased. No further statements on motive or events were released by police on Thursday.

Local policing resources remained deployed in Cusher Green into the evening while detectives and forensic teams carried out a meticulous examination of the scene. The PSNI said it will continue enquiries and provide updates when appropriate as the investigation progresses.
