Juan Soto’s big bat lifts Mets to 10-8 win over Tigers
Soto’s fourth-inning grand slam and sixth-inning two-run triple produce six RBIs as Mets overcome another shaky start at Comerica Park
Juan Soto delivered twice in key moments Monday, hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning and a two-run triple in the sixth to power the New York Mets to a 10-8 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
Soto matched a career high with six RBIs and reached base four times, providing the offense the Mets needed as another starting pitcher struggled to hold a lead. The win snapped New York’s two-game skid and came as the club began a 10-game road trip.

The decisive sequence began in the fourth, when Soto’s grand slam put the Mets ahead. Detroit erased that advantage later in the inning, but Soto again gave New York the lead in the sixth with a two-run triple down the right-field line. The Mets held on for a 10-8 final after combining timely hitting with enough bullpen work to preserve the lead.
“That’s one of the best things you can do as a baseball player — come up clutch for your team and try to help them win the game,” Soto said, referring to his two go-ahead hits.
Soto entered September off a torrid August in which he posted a 1.009 OPS and hit 10 homers. His six-RBI outburst on Monday matched a personal high and continued a stretch of potent offense for the Mets; the team scored double digits for the third time in eight games.
While New York’s lineup produced runs in bunches, the starting pitching was inconsistent. Another Mets starter struggled to contain Detroit’s offense early, forcing the offense to supply multiple rallies for the victory. The bullpen and defense combined to limit further damage after the sixth inning, allowing New York to secure the road win.
The victory gives the Mets a fresh start on their road trip and a boost after consecutive losses. Detroit, which mounted multiple comebacks during the game, fell short despite several rallies and timely hits.
New York will continue the road swing seeking to build on Monday’s offensive outburst, while Detroit will look to tighten its pitching and hold leads in future games at Comerica Park.
