Former Ohio State long snapper Michael Roen McCullough was arrested early Friday in Columbus and is being held on a single charge of strangulation, according to police and court records.

Columbus police said they responded just after 1:30 a.m. to a report of domestic violence. Court documents obtained by The Columbus Dispatch, cited by media outlets, say the woman told officers McCullough punched her several times in the face and grabbed her by the throat during an argument. The victim told investigators she "could not breathe at all and felt panicked" and that she lost consciousness, the report states.

McCullough, 25, was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Corrections Center, where online jail records show he is being held on the strangulation charge. The records list the charge but do not provide information on bond or whether additional charges are expected.

Police and prosecutors in Franklin County provided the charge information in court filings and through online booking records. The Columbus Dispatch reported details of the alleged attack after reviewing court records.

McCullough is identified in reports as a former Ohio State long snapper. The university and representatives for McCullough did not immediately provide comment to media outlets cited in initial accounts.

The case is pending in local court. Further proceedings, including any arraignment or additional filings, were not included in the initial reports. Prosecutors and law enforcement did not release additional details about the incident in the first public disclosures.

Domestic violence and strangulation allegations are routinely investigated by local police and may result in criminal charges if evidence supports the claims. The Franklin County Corrections Center maintains booking and charge records that are updated as cases proceed through the court system.

No further information about injuries, medical treatment, or the relationship between the parties was included in the initial police or court documents cited by news reports. Local court dockets or the Franklin County prosecutor's office will likely provide updates as the case moves forward.
