Chelsea have agreed an improved package with Bayern Munich that will see striker Nicolas Jackson move to the German club in a deal worth in excess of £70.5 million.

The 24-year-old Senegal international is set to join Bayern on an initial loan for £14.3 million (16.5m euros) that includes a mandatory obligation to buy for £56.2 million (65m euros) should a minimum number of appearances be met, sources close to the talks said. Personal terms are already in place for a five-year permanent contract.

The move concludes an on-off transfer saga between the clubs that briefly faltered when Chelsea instructed Jackson to return to west London after Liam Delap sustained an injury during the club's Premier League win over Fulham. That recall had cast doubt over whether the deal would proceed, but the clubs subsequently agreed the revised terms.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for an initial fee of £32 million. He scored 30 goals in 81 appearances for the club across competitions, including a notable contribution in Chelsea's run to the Conference League final.

To bolster their attacking options following Jackson's departure, Chelsea have signed Argentine midfielder-forward Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton on a season-long loan for a fee of around £2 million. The 20-year-old will provide additional depth across the front line as Chelsea negotiate the remainder of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea's sporting and recruitment teams have been active this summer as the club balances squad needs with financial planning. The structured loan-to-buy arrangement for Jackson reflects a growing trend among top clubs to use staged deals with performance-related obligations.

Bayern confirmed interest in Jackson earlier in the window as they sought to reinforce their striking options. Chelsea's agreement to the mandatory purchase clause secures a significant immediate transfer fee while providing Bayern with certainty over a long-term addition, contingent on the appearance criteria.

Both moves are subject to standard medical checks and registration processes before they are formally completed and announced. Clubs often withhold final confirmation until all paperwork is processed and relevant governing bodies ratify the transfers.
