Teenager arrested after 12-year-old dies following fall from roundabout in Cheshire park
Police probe reports that an e‑bike was used to propel the playground roundabout; suspect released under investigation
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after a 12-year-old boy died following a fall from a roundabout in a playground in Winsford, Cheshire, police said.
Cheshire Police said the teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the incident at Wharton Recreation Ground, off Ledward Street, on Friday evening. The younger boy, identified by his family as Logan Carter, died at the scene at about 6 p.m. BST. The suspect was later released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Officers said they were exploring a number of lines of inquiry, including reports that an e‑bike was used to propel the children's roundabout at around the time of the incident. A force spokesperson said officers were looking into the suggestion and gathering witness accounts and other evidence to establish exactly what happened.
The roundabout in the park remained cordoned off with red and white tape on Saturday, and floral tributes and other messages were left nearby. Family members described Logan, 12, as "everyone's therapy person," paying tribute to him in comments released to local media.
Police said the arrest was made later on the evening of the incident and that inquiries were ongoing. No formal charges have been announced. Officers asked anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Local emergency services attended the scene following reports of the fall and declared the death at the location. Cheshire Police said detectives were working to piece together a timeline and to corroborate witness statements. The force did not provide further detail on the nature of any injuries or the mechanics of the fall while the investigation is active.
The case has prompted questions about the use of motorised vehicles near children's play equipment, but police cautioned that inquiries remain under way and that no conclusions should be drawn until evidence is assessed. The arrested teenager has been released under investigation, which allows officers time to continue examinations and consult with prosecutors.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police through official channels. The force continues to appeal for witnesses and any footage to help establish the sequence of events that led to the boy's death.
