NYPD Officer Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver While Directing Traffic in Brooklyn
Officer taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition after being hit from behind; driver fled the scene, police say.
An NYPD officer was struck by a hit-and-run driver Sunday evening while directing traffic in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, authorities said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was directing traffic at the intersection of Church Avenue and Schenectady Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. when a black sedan with an orange license plate struck the officer from behind, the NYPD said. The driver then fled the scene and remained at large as of Monday, police said.

The injured officer was transported to Kings County Hospital. Officials described the officer's condition as stable. The NYPD has opened an investigation into the hit-and-run and asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
Police did not immediately release additional identifying details about the officer or the suspected vehicle beyond the description of a black sedan with an orange license plate. Witness accounts and images from the scene were circulated on social media following the crash, according to local reports.
Hit-and-run collisions involving pedestrians and traffic-control officers are treated as felonies under state law when they result in injury. Prosecutors and police typically seek video evidence, eyewitness accounts and vehicle registration information when investigating such cases. The NYPD did not say whether surveillance footage from nearby cameras had been recovered.
The incident occurred amid broader concerns about street safety and violence against first responders in New York City, topics that local officials and law enforcement leaders have addressed in recent months. For this case, the NYPD said the investigation was ongoing and further details would be released as they became available.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run was urged to contact the NYPD's investigators or the local precinct.

The department did not immediately announce arrests or seek specific suspects publicly as of the latest update. The officer's recovery and the status of the probe remained under review by NYPD investigators.
