Bride says groom stopped his mother from wearing white gown to their wedding
A bride posted on TikTok that her future mother-in-law bought a white lace dress and the groom intervened to prevent it being worn at the ceremony
A bride-to-be said her future mother-in-law purchased a white dress for the couple’s wedding and that the groom intervened to prevent her from wearing it.
Deanna, who posted the account on TikTok under the handle @deannanotdeanna, said the episode unfolded while her fiancé was out shopping with his sister. She told viewers that he asked to see the dress his mother had selected, and the woman initially replied, "It's a surprise." He replied, "No, only Deanna's dress is a surprise," according to Deanna's recounting.
She said she later saw photos of the outfit: a white lace gown with floral detailing and a deep V-neck. When the groom viewed the images, he told his mother, "You're not wearing this," saying the dress clearly looked white. Deanna said the mother-in-law insisted the dress was pink and that she had already placed an order and paid a deposit. The groom then asked her to call the store and, Deanna said, heard her attempting to cancel the order while he listened.

Deanna's video, which lays out the exchange and includes screenshots of the dress, drew attention on social media. In it she relays that her fiancé later sent the photos to her and was firm with his mother that she should not wear a white dress to the wedding. The bride described the groom as "stern" during the confrontation.
She said the mother-in-law had told family members the dress was a different color than it appeared in the photos, but the groom was insistent that the outfit could not be white given the traditional role of the bride and expectations around wedding attire. According to Deanna's account, the mother-in-law attempted to cancel the order after being confronted.
The post prompted discussion among viewers about etiquette and appropriate attire for members of the wedding party and guests. Deanna's recounting did not include statements from the mother-in-law or the store involved, and the TikTok post did not show the phone conversation referenced.
Wedding etiquette guides and industry professionals commonly advise that, unless explicitly permitted by the bride and groom, guests and family members avoid wearing white or widely perceived white to a wedding to prevent confusion with the bride's attire. The dispute as described by Deanna reflects those customary expectations and the tensions that can arise when interpretations of color and intent differ.
Deanna's video remains available on TikTok, where it has generated comments and shares. The groom's quick action to challenge the purchase and to ask the mother-in-law to contact the store highlights how couples are increasingly involved in details and decisions that have traditionally been handled by family members.

Neither Deanna nor her husband provided additional public comment beyond the TikTok post, and the mother-in-law did not respond in the video. The account was public at the time of reporting and attracted attention from users discussing boundaries, tradition and the role of social media in airing private family disputes.
